When I was in primary school,I find it difficult to understand everything they taught me in school. I usually fail Mathematics and my teacher will always punish me .Then I was also afraid to talk to my Dad about the challenges I faced at school. This beating by my teacher became obvious that I decided I have to open up to my Dad.I thought at first he is going to punish me for not doing well in class but to my utmost surprise he hugged me and thanked me for opening up to him, then he promised to become my home tutor. When he said that,my joy knew no bound and thanked him because indeed I needed help
urgently .
After dinner,he said to me that 7pm every night now our study time for homework and other assignments. And nothing else gets done until the homework is completely done.
Essential Duties of parents in home tutoring
parents are encouraged to take more active role in the learning process and tutoring of their children. The child's first classroom or learning center is the home and his first tutor remains the parent. preparing the child for lifelong learning starts the minute the child is born. The child's education doesn't begin when the child goes off to kindergarten. It begins at home with parents.
My Dad helps me with my homework. At my younger age, I struggled to find the motivation to do my homework,my Dad started teaching me through citing of example or turn homework into a game. He would always try did find a space opposite me,and sit next to me so that I won't be distracted. Then actively participate as well getting involved in a questions /answers game.
One of the best ways to encourage children to do their homework is to have a study routine. As I followed the every night study routine designed by my Dad helped me do my homework without protest. At that young age, Danny and I always put off movies or cartoons immediately it is 7pm after dinner in the night to start my one hour study and doing my homework.
My Parents have this habit of Praising efforts especially when we have done a good job.
After each session,My Dad do take five minutes to look over my work.If I have done well,he tells me that I have done well with a gift. The praise went a long way to getting me do better and encourages me to do better. sometimes he gives gifts or reward me with a treat of some sort such as watching my favorite video game for half an hour.
it's good to say "here's what I saw and I think you did that really well."Understanding the emotional strength of the child and the areas in which they struggle is something that parents should be considering.Identify what the children are really good at and where they could improve. It may be as simple as practicing a certain skill a little more or support them in time, you will see that your children feels more confident in areas they may have been struggling with before.
My parents explain topics I don't understand. For instance,at younger age in primary school, I find it difficult to understand everything taught in school .But whenever my Dad explains everything including the areas I find difficult to understand becomes very easy . Most times,I read aloud and when I couldn't pronounce any word correctly,my parents helped out those areas.Definitely the education from home really helped me become successful in life.
