Finally, the FCT administration did something sensible by declaring Friday a work-free day for the area council elections. No point forcing people to rush through traffic trying to vote while also dodging taxis on airport road.

I remember last election cycle, my friend tried to vote after dropping his kids at school in Jabi. He ended up stuck at the polling unit until 4pm because the ad-hoc staff were still setting up tables at 10am. At least with a free day, we can get there early, find our names on the register without sweating through our clothes.

But here is the real talk for anyone in Kubwa, Gwarinpa, or even Maitama. If you live in a place where the road is already a nightmare on a normal Tuesday, Friday might still be chaos. The free day does not mean the traffic will vanish. It just means you have no excuse to miss voting.

Also, check your PVC status now. Not tomorrow. Not Friday morning when you are already in line. I have seen people running back home from Area 10 because they left their card on the kitchen counter. That is just painful.

One more thing. If you plan to go out after voting, expect most markets and government offices to be quiet. But private businesses in Wuse Market or Garki will likely be open. Just do not expect any serious work to happen until Saturday.

Let us make it count this time. Not just for the candidates, but to show we care about who runs our local roads, schools, and markets.
