📍Benin City, Nigeria
Lol, I had to check my screen twice when I saw this article pop up on my feed. "Guide to the Best San Diego Neighborhoods" from Visit California? Abeg, who posted this here? This is Benin City, not California. I guess someone's algorithms just went haywire.
But since we're on the subject, let me give you a real local guide to **Benin City neighborhoods** instead. No beachfront views or taco trucks, but places with character and history.
If you want the heart of the city, **Ring Road** is where everything happens. Traffic is chaos, but the energy is unmatched. You have the Oba's Palace nearby, and all the major banks and shops. Good for business, bad for parking.
For a quieter residential vibe, check out **Uselu**. Don't let the name fool you - it's a solid area with University of Benin's campus nearby. Lots of students, affordable rent, and the famous Uselu market where you can bargain for fresh vegetables and fabrics. Just watch out for the potholes on the main road after rainfall.
**Ikpoba Hill** is another decent spot. Cool breeze up there, some newer buildings going up. The road can be a headache during rush hour though, especially when the trailer trucks are climbing.
**Oba Market area** - if you want to experience real Benin commerce, this is it. You can find everything from second-hand clothes to local spices. But abeg, hold your bag tight and don't flash your phone too much. The crowd can be thick.
And for nightlife, the **Airport Road** axis is where the lounges and bars are popping. Places like De Bull and the spots around the new stadium. Not cheap though, so budget accordingly.
So while Google wants to send you to San Diego, come to Benin City first. We have better jollof and the streets will teach you survival skills no guidebook can give.
