SHORT-STORY
GENRE : PROSE.
TITLE : GLOOM.
Life should have been easier than this. But my supposed home vehemently kicked against all I was.
A taboo they called it.
I remember clearly how he spat on me, hate and disdain evident in his eyes.
I had just gained admission, again!
The one and only thing I have ever asked them for.
The one true thing I lived for.
Yet, my own family kicked greatly against.
"It is ridiculous to get into college before your brother does."
They would spew nonsense each time I tried to talk about it.
My dad has vehemently refused to support me into the University since I graduated from secondary school.
For seven years in my life, I had toiled the face of earth with shattered dreams and a pessimistic soul.
The only dream I had since I was little was to be the greatest Journalist that ever lived.
I wanted to be one who wrote and said her scripts by herself.
I wanted to feed my audience with real and true news.
Top notch eloquence and intelligence.
I would bag so many awards for Loyola back in my days.
Debates, Spelling bees, Olympiads, name it. My enthusiasm and focus was unmatched.
But what were dreams compared to the claws of parents who held solely to the accelerator and brakes of your life to drive it where they want.
I was just another girl child who could end up cursed if she went against the will and wishes of the one who birthed her.
I was another liability.
An object that'd forever remain subject to a male child, even if that child was my younger one.
I am Valerie McCauley.
And this is my story.
