        ✍ UNVIELED REDEMPTION📖📚

Writing the joint admission and matriculation board exam, (jamb). Was one thing, and getting an admission was another, many students who write the jamb exam do not get the opportunity to be admitted into the university, some have their choice of course changed to another, some even go further to work out their admission with huge amount of money.

Grace was eighteen, she had just written the jamb exam to study nursing in the University of Nigeria Nsuka (UNN). And was hoping to get in, she had studied her life out just to get the cut off mark for her course and luckily, she even beat the cut off mark, after some months of her writing the jamb, the school post utme started in which she also went to write, as always she smashed it. Indeed Grace was very smart. Admission was ongoing, grace was frightened that she might not get in, she was aware of the nook and crannies involved in school politics, but her family could not afford such, they weren’t poor and they weren’t rich either, you could say they were a middle class family. And her father being a very religious man would always resent on the idea of going through loop holes to gain admission, he always told her that to achieve anything in life, one needed to work extremely hard. Because of her hard work, she was always the best in school, she was the smartest, having the highest awards during her graduation last year, and was the person with the highest jamb score among her set, to crown It all she even got the award of the most well behaved student back then in school. It was a Saturday morning, grace had woken up feeling restless about her admission, she went straight to her dad asking for his phone to check her jamb caps, he gave her his phone, she logged into her jamb caps and saw the most exciting news ever, she has just gotten admitted into UNN to study nursing.

Throughout that week she was hyped by her parents and siblings, her mother had even gone around telling some of her friends that her daughter had gotten an admission, her dad barely called her by her name again, rather he now called her “my nurse.” Her siblings were going about singing her praises and telling her how much they would miss her when she’s gone, Grace herself on the other hand was  feeling like she had just won a lottery, some of her old class mates had come visiting her, saying how happy they were for her, indeed the rest of the time before she left for school was memorable. Soon her preparation started, her mum had bought her some new clothes, kitchen utensils and food stuffs for school, while her dad bought her a new phone, her siblings were indeed jealous of her, they’d cry loudly saying “daddy this is partial, see how you guys are treating grace like a queen.” And her dad would always reply saying “when you peoples time come, you guys will also be treated like that.” And yes ⁵her parents never forgot to bombard her with advices. Grace always go to church, Grace always read your bible, Grace do not forget your home background, Grace do not follow bad friends, Grace always read your books. And her father would always add, most importantly stay away from boys. Her siblings even started teasing her about it, but she knew her parents wanted the best for her, so she never bothered about her siblings teasing. Finally the day she was going to leave for school came, It was a heartfelt moment, her parents had prayed for her massively that morning and had given her the last dose of advice, at that point Grace knew the impact it would have on her leaving home, she was going to miss all the home made dishes, though she assisted her mum, but nothing was more sweeter than eating together with the family. Her siblings saw her off to the park, they hugged her for the last time and bid her farewell.

The journey from Porthacourt to Enugu started, it was a memorable one for her as she stayed awake throughout the whole journey, staring at things through the window, she had deliberately sat there just to get a good view of everything around. After hours of them being on the road, the journey ended and she took a cab straight to her hostel block, when she got to her room door, she knocked and a girl came out. “Hello good afternoon.” Grace greeted the girl smiling, the girl too was also nice and smiled back to her replying “ good afternoon dear, what is the matter ?”

“this is the room allocated to me by the school.” Grace answered. “Oh you’re a new student ?” the girl asked again. “yes I am.” Grace replied beaming another smile. The girl immediately helped her pack up her things to the room and Grace started arranging her stuffs, when she was done she called her parents and told them all about her journey, her parents advised her to take care of herself.

Weeks passed and lectures started, even though students  were still doing their registrations. During one of Grace registration she had met a particular guy in which after some conversations with him she got to know that his name was Michael. Michael was also in her department but was already in three hundred level, at first she wasn’t interested in bringing up a conversation with him, based on her parents advice and warning, but he persisted, and giving that he was looking decent she gave in to the conversation, after all it was just a mere conversation. She asked him why he was in a registration centre if he was in three hundred level, and he replied her saying he came for a friend’s junior brother, who was in the same level as her, he further went to ask for her number, in which she bluntly refused but he had already gotten it without her notice from the paper on her hands showing some of her details. No doubt Grace was a very beautiful girl and always drew peoples attention, even her roommates envied her because she didn’t stress much when it came to dressing and making up, yet she still looked gorgeous in what ever she wore.

After some days Michael chatted grace up, which really surprised her, but after some more conversations he revealed how he got her number, she didn’t stop talking to him, in fact she became his friend, because he made her feel safe, not that she totally trusted him but he really helped her a lot, most of the times he even guided her through some assignments and even gave her past questions to focus on for exams. With time they became close, she even started dragging him to church, her roommates would always laugh and tell her “dont worry, he’s just setting his net well.” She’ll just smile and ignore them, knowing she is in safe hands.

After some months, exams were approaching and students were preparing. Grace had a particular tough exam coming up, and had to read harder for it, that night, her roommates were noisy so she decided to go for night class since it wasn’t too far from her hostel. After reading for a long period of time and was feeling sleepy, she decided to go back to the hostel but it was already midnight and she couldn’t sleep in the hall because of her phone, and other valuable things in her bag, it was not a new thing of people’s property getting missed during night class, so she had no other option but to go back to the hostel. It was after two in the midnight so she walked faster, on her way going, she was blocked and caught by some group of cult boys, Grace was scared to her bone marrow, was this how her life was going to end by becoming a victim of rape, because it was clear that was all they had in mind, she might even die during the process. She called on the  heavens to protect her, one of the boys grabbed her bag, and the other one grabbed her hand, she was crying and pleading for her life, she couldn’t even scream because they were ready to cut her to pieces if she did, they took her to a more secluded place and was about to begin their evil deed when a voice stopped them. Behold it was Michael, he pointed the torch at her face to be sure it was really her, indeed it was. Grace herself couldn’t  believe her eyes, she couldn’t even open her mouth to talk, immediately Michael ordered the cult group to let her go with her properties, the boys didn’t argue much, indicating that he was the leader of the group. She scurried away crying, finding out the person she trusted and called her friend was a leader of a cult group. Indeed It was one hell of an experience, will she ever be able to talk to him again? or was her life already in danger?. If you were in her shoes what will you do ?.
