I WAS MURDERED BY A MOTHER
By Cletus Gyang
I never sought for her consent to exist in her womb
She considered me a product of a mistake due to her carelessness
She wants to maintain her weight
Because she does not want to be considered old fashioned.

Rather than an asset, I was a liability
Unwise was her to put her life on the line
Nor did she care about mine
Perhaps she thought life worth nothing.

Humanity pleaded on my behalf,
She considered it a cacophony
To this effect killed her conscience

She never allowed me to develop
In my fragility an advantage was taken upon me
My fragility could not dodge the swipe of the scissors
Nor the scourging mutiny from the pills she took

Just because the body is hers
She does with me whatever she decides
She went to men who swore to defend life but profaned their skills
Just because she has some bills.

She denied me the warmth of her womb, the care of a mother
She denied me the taste of life
I could not experience the sunny days
Nor play under the rain like my friends

Ambitions shattered into extinction
Either I floated lifeless in her toilet sink waiting to be flushed
Or my underdeveloped hand is being picked by a dog
I know I deserve a befitting burial but denied
Was it because I was fragile?

Many unborn children remain at the mercies of their mothers
Hoping not to be murdered by their mothers
Like me!
