Malaika, a seven-lettered word, when translated to languages like Yoruba, Hausa, Bassa-nge, amongst many, would mean "Angels." Despite the Yoruba-Igbo tone, its relevance crosses cultural barriers, conveying a vivid message that emphasizes the impact of supernatural forces and emotions like love, hate, and anger in dealing with life's challenges.
The film unfolds the compelling story of Mrs. Njoku, portrayed by Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi, a successful businesswoman and C.E.O of Adetutu's Couture who suffered from a series of miscarriages over five (5) years.
Her husband Dr. Ebuka Njoku portrayed by Emeka Ike, an internationally celebrated fertility health specialist magnifies the pain of his wife's childlessness and this constitutes into myriads of family challenges affecting the peace and calm of the home and his daughter's (Chioma Njoku) who felt alienated from her father's love.
The painful childlessness of Mrs. Ebuka deteriorated badly to points where she flared at the slightest gestures especially to her step-daughter, Chioma Njoku (Chi-Chi), her husband and her workers. She however found solace in confiding with Sheba i.e., Anne Kansiime, where the reasons for childlessness was uncovered via a vision during a song performance
The choice of music in this A-rated movie is top notch as it blends smoothly with the emotions at various timings of the meeting, evoking the mental imagery especially at the atonement scene which was suspenseful and intriguing.
The movie had a spice of comedy especially with the involvement of Pa James of Pa Ajasco and company Kansiime Anne, Sisi Quadri, Adeoye Elesho, and Odunlade Adekola, amongst others.
Another actor worthy of commendation aside Mrs Ebuka, Chioma, Mr. Njoku, is the gang leader who made the kidnapping scene splendid. The choreography and cinematography portrayed during the rescue of Chioma Njoku was well-rehearsed and perfectly delivered.
After seeing the movie at Mees Palace Cinema in Jos, Plateau state, the movie can be seen as a therapeutic piece, helping families and individuals realise the need for unconditional love, peace and willingness to change one's bad character for individual and corporate benefits.
The triumphant conception of triplets by Mrs. Ebuka provides a poignant conclusion, offering solace to viewers who anticipated tragedy after her sacrificial rescue of her stepdaughter.
The movie rating is 鉁筹笍 鉁筹笍 鉁筹笍 鉁筹笍 on a personal note.
