This is actually a fair point from the Abia electricity regulator, and not just empty talk. I live on Umugasi Road, off Umuocham, and I have seen the difference first hand. Before Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) handed over to the Abia State-owned distribution company, we were lucky to get 4 hours of light in a whole week. Now, on this axis, we get a solid 10 to 12 hours daily. Sometimes it goes out at night and comes back by 8am. That is a miracle by Nigerian standards.

Look, EEDC was a disaster for Aba. They were collecting money but doing zero maintenance. The transformers were blowing every week. People were running generators 24/7 just to keep their shops open on Faulks Road and along Aba-Owerri Road. The cost of doing business here dropped drastically because of that darkness. Now, with the new Abia Power company, you see less generator fumes around Cemetery Road and fewer complaints from traders at Ariaria International Market. The market is buzzing better now.

But let me be real with you. It is not perfect yet. Some areas behind Hospital Road and parts of Ogbor Hill still struggle. The regulator is praising the progress, and they deserve credit for trying to fix a broken system. But they need to make sure the power supply reaches every nook and corner of Aba, not just the main roads and the well-connected areas. I visited my friend on Umunkwa Lane last week and his light was out for two days straight. So there is still work to be done.

That said, if you are living or doing business in Aba, you can feel the change. More people are buying refrigerators and freezers now. The entertainment spots on Asa Road are staying open later. It is a good sign. Let us just hope this consistency does not disappear after the elections or when the government changes. We have seen that before. For now, I am cautiously happy. Aba is rising again.
