I embarked on my journalism journey in mid-2015 within the news and current affairs department of Taraba State Broadcasting Service (TSBS) in Jalingo, Taraba, Nigeria, assuming the role of a reporter. In 2016, I was assigned to specialize in health reporting, which has since become my forte. In addition to my health reporting duties, I also wear the hat of a producer, responsible for crafting a weekly program centered on climate change. This program delves into the impacts of climate change and explores potential solutions.
Throughout the years, I've had the privilege of shouldering diverse responsibilities within the newsroom. I initially transitioned into the role of a sub-editor when my superior was promoted, and I was entrusted to take on her position. Currently, I serve as an editor, a role that provides me with invaluable insights into the ethical aspects of journalism and widens my perspective on creating developmental content.
In addition to my work in the newsroom, I've collaborated with various development organizations such as the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), Taraba State AIDS Control Agency (TACA), and several Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) dedicated to the betterment of women, children, and youth.
Amidst the rewarding aspects of my career, I have also encountered challenges that have shaped my journey. These challenges include navigating the ever-evolving media landscape, maintaining objectivity in reporting, addressing resource constraints often faced in journalism, and adapting to the digital age.
As I look ahead, I aspire to continue leveraging my journalistic skills to effect positive change in my community and beyond. I am eager to further enhance my career by #Learning digital tools and techniques that are becoming increasingly essential in modern journalism. My goal remains steadfast: #MediaProfessional, shed light on critical issues, and advocate social and environmental causes, all while contributing to a more informed and empowered society through my work in journalism.
