📍Oyo, Nigeria

If you're serious about thrifting in Oyo and don't want to waste time on overpriced stuff, follow this guide. I've been hitting these spots every weekend for months.

1. **Akesan Market (off Idi-Ape Road)** - This is the motherlode. Go early on a Saturday morning, like before 7am. The sellers line the street leading to the main market, not inside the chaos. Look for the white metal stalls near the old police post. You'll find everything from vintage Ankara to barely-worn Adidas sneakers. Always haggle by 40% first.

2. **Odo-Ona Junction (opposite the filling station)** - There's a guy named Mallam Gani who sets up under the big mango tree every Tuesday and Thursday. His stuff is curated - no expired fashion. He brings bales from Lagos. Tell him I sent you and he might show you the hidden bag with silk tops from Asos. Cash only.

3. **Challenge Bus Stop (behind the old cinema)** - Don't walk past the main road. Go into the narrow lane behind the cinema building. Three ladies run a collective there. Their stock is mostly brand new "gift" items from abroad. I found a Zara blazer for 1,500 Naira last month. The trick is to ask "what came in yesterday?"

4. **Oyo-Ibadan Road (near the Alafin's Palace junction)** - This is for shoes and bags. Two uncles set up shop under the blue tarpaulin beside the mechanic village. They get the factory rejects and returns. I got a pair of Timberlands that only had a loose stitch for 3,000 Naira. Bring your own bag.

5. **Owode Market (the section close to the flour mill)** - This is for home goods and furniture thrift. You can find vintage lamps, stools, and even some antiques if you dig. The best day is Friday afternoon when the traders are packing up and ready to negotiate.

Bonus tip: Don't use your phone to check prices while bargaining. It shows you're a newbie. Just inspect the item, shake your head, and walk away slowly. They'll call you back.
