MY ABODE
I am coming home
To a place of rest
To keep my head on my old pillow and recline on my wooden mattress
To lie on my old sofa
To walk down the stream and get water with an earthern clay pot
To sweep with a broom made from the palm leaves
To breath in the freshness of the air and of the trees
To enjoy the scenery of the dews below the horizon and the beauty of the mountains
To brew tea boiled with the mellina woods
To enjoy the unctuous puff made in my mother’s mud kitchen
And the bread baked with the sand down the river
And the taste of the fresh cold water from the earthen pot
Oh home , I have longed for you
Day and night I dream to come to you
I walk through memory lane and am glad I have a home
Where I am accepted and not prejudiced
Where I can speak and not be criticised
Where I can evolve freely and not be oppressed
Where I can be me and not be compressed
My home
Yes
My home
Where I can be me
Where I belong
Where I can breathe
Where I don’t appear strange for being a negroid
Or for even existing
Though I leave home ,home never leaves me
There is no place like home
A place I can always fall back to without fear and prejudice
Dear home
I am back .
