For years, I woke up with my heart already racing. The second my eyes opened, my brain would sprint through a checklist of fears and tasks. It felt like I was starting every day already behind. Then, I stumbled into a morning routine that flipped the script. It didn't fix everything overnight, but it gave me a handle on the chaos. Here is what changed for me.

**1. No Phone for the First 30 Minutes.**

This was the hardest, but most powerful shift. I keep my phone on Do Not Disturb and plug it in across the room. No emails, no Instagram, no doomscrolling. Giving my brain 30 minutes to wake up without external demands is like building a moat around my calm.

**2. Bright Light, Instantly.**

I open all the curtains or step outside for 60 seconds. Sunlight (or even bright artificial light) hits my eyes. This signals my brain to stop producing melatonin and start producing cortisol. Its not stressful cortisol. Its the healthy, morning cortisol that wakes me up and sharpens my focus.

**3. A 5-Minute Box Breathing Practice.**

Before jumping up, I stay in bed and breathe. I inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4, exhale for 4, hold for 4. I repeat this 5 times. It physically forces my nervous system out of fight-or-flight mode. It resets my baseline.

**4. One Glass of Water with Salt.**

I add a pinch of sea salt to a big glass of water. Dehydration is a massive trigger for anxiety symptoms. The salt helps my body absorb the water, and the electrolytes support my adrenal glands. It sounds simple, but it quiets that morning jittery feeling.

**5. The 5-Minute Stretch Hourglass.**

No yoga pretzel poses. I do 3 gentle stretches:
- *Neck rolls* - 90 seconds
- *Cat-cow on the floor* - 2 minutes
- *Forward fold* - 90 seconds

This releases the tension I stored in my shoulders from the night before. My body feels less tight, so my mind feels less tight.

**6. Write One Sentence Only.**

I grab a notebook and write one sentence. Not a whole page. Just one: "Today I want to feel ______." Or "Right now I feel ______." Naming my anxiety removes its power. It makes it small and manageable.

**Why this works for anxiety.**

My old routine was a high speed chase. This routine is a slow, intentional walk. It tells my brain, "We are safe. We are grounded. We can handle today." It removes the urgency and replaces it with deliberate calm.

I used to think a good morning meant being productive. Now I know a good morning means being present. Anxiety still visits, but now I know how to open the door slowly.

I hope these steps find you well. What is one thing you want to add to your morning?

Um, the salt thing blew my mind honestly. I've been doing the no phone thing for a while but never thought about electrolytes for morning jitters. Gonna try that tomorrow. Also, writing ONE sentence feels way less intimidating than journaling 3 pages like everyone says to do. thx for sharing this, my morning brain has been a mess lately
