📍Kano, Nigeria

If you are serious about getting fit in Kano and tired of those dusty roadside gyms with broken benches, here are the spots that actually work. I have trained at most of these places and these are the ones worth your time and money.

First up, **Bodyshapers Gym** on Post Office Road, right near the old Ahmadu Bello Way junction. This is the O.G. for a reason. It has got proper free weights, a few squat racks that actually work, and the trainers there know what they are doing. It is not fancy, no air conditioning that will freeze you, but for serious lifting and no nonsense, it is solid. The crowd is mostly working class and serious gym rats. Expect to pay around 5k for a drop-in.

If you prefer a cleaner, more modern vibe with some cardio classes, head to **FitFam Kano** at the junction of Magajin Rumfa Road, just opposite the big Murtala Mohammed Library. This one is popular with the younger crowd and people who want that Instagram-worthy workout. They have spinning classes, Zumba, and even some yoga mats. The locker room is clean which is a big plus. Membership is monthly but they often run promotions. It is about 10k a month.

For ladies who want a more private space, **Active Me Fitness Studio** on Ibrahim Taiwo Road, inside the new plaza near the Gidan Murtala roundabout, has ladies-only sessions on certain days. They focus on bodyweight exercises, resistance bands, and some light weights. The instructor, Fatima, is really patient and the classes are small. It is more about toning and flexibility than heavy lifting. Great for beginners.

Then there is **Prime Fitness Arena** along Zoo Road, just before you get to the old Zoo gate. This one is huge, like a warehouse converted into a gym. They have boxing bags, a small track for running, and lots of machines. It is a bit loud and can get crowded after 5pm but the energy is good. They also have a juice bar which is a nice touch.

For a budget option, **Kano City Gym** near the Kofar Mata market, behind the main mosque, is basic but functional. It is mostly used by street traders and younger guys. No frills, no AC, just old-school iron. And it is cheap, like 2k per session.

My personal advice: if you are new to the area, start with FitFam for the classes and the clean environment. But if you want to actually build muscle, go to Bodyshapers. Just bring your own towel and water.
