SLUMBER NOT FATHER
Slumber not father
The field you tendered has grown thorns
Our farmland; overrun and overgrazed
The mountains are sold out and
The plains are on lease
Slumber not father
Your son, Prodigal is here
The roads you threaded are now death traps and potholes
Your vision an illusion
The dream is gradually fading away
Slumber not father
Lies; our lingua franca
Aliens have taken over the land
Who’s to blame when we throw stones at the market place
How do we tell the generation to come that we once had thinkers
Slumber not father
Market since relocated to the east
Our currency a cast and only the beast can afford the basics
Your children torn in pieces; we eat and drink a strange diet
Our dance has changed as the different tune from the piper
Slumber not father
Crime is now our pride
We thrive in grime and buy our way
Awaiting the pay
Sometimes we revolt and Return in regret
Slumber not father the house is under attack
