A new political reality is unfolding in Yobe: critics are speaking less, while completed projects speak more. Gov. Mai Mala Buni’s administration has adopted a quiet but powerful communication strategy—letting achievements replace arguments.
From roads and hospitals to schools, water supply, and agricultural industries, the state is changing at a pace difficult for even the most vocal opposition to dismiss; the most effective political message is now coming from construction sites, completed facilities, and equipment arriving for newly built industries.
The latest breakthrough is the arrival of advanced sesame-processing machines sourced from Europe for the four industrial plants in Machina, Potiskum, Damaturu, and Nguru. These machines will clean, process, refine, and package sesame seeds for commercial export—turning Yobe from a raw-produce seller into a value-added hub.
Economists say the move will boost revenue, create jobs, attract investors, and support thousands of farmers. While opponents once accused the government of “promises without action,” the ground reality has shifted.
New roads are linking communities, modern hospitals are opening doors to patients, and schools built under the administration are now in use across the state.
Residents say what is happening does not require propaganda. “If you want to see Buni’s performance, just come to the field,” said a trader in Potiskum. “Everywhere you look, something new is happening.”
Political communication experts describe the strategy as intentional—a form of persuasive governance where results defeat rhetoric. Under social judgement theory, people trust what they can verify with their own eyes, and the administration seems to understand this perfectly.
Today, development projects are doing the talking. Opposition figures who once relied on criticism now face a tougher reality: the public sees progress, not arguments. And in politics, visible progress is the strongest message.
As Yobe moves deeper into industrialization, agricultural modernization, and social infrastructure upgrades, the Buni administration appears focused on a simple philosophy—deliver work, let people judge, and allow progress to silence doubt.
