Traditional rulers across Yobe State have thrown their weight behind Governor Mai Mala Buni’s renewed effort to strengthen community security and curb rising cases of homicide and other forms of criminality.

The commendation came from the Emirs of Fika, Gudi, Potiskum, and Fune when they received members of the State’s Special Committee on Stabilization of Security Situation, recently constituted by Governor Buni to engage traditional institutions in the fight against insecurity.

Led by the Special Adviser on Religious Affairs, Ustaz Baba Gana M. Kyari, the committee is touring all 14 Emirate Councils in the state to sensitize traditional leaders on proactive measures to prevent crime and promote peace within their domains.

During the latest leg of the tour, which covered the Zone B Senatorial District on Sunday, November 2, 2025, the royal fathers applauded the governor for taking a decisive stand against emerging threats to public safety.

They described the initiative as “timely and visionary,” noting that traditional leaders, being the closest to the grassroots, have a vital role to play in intelligence gathering and early warning mechanisms.

“Governor Buni has once again demonstrated strong leadership and genuine concern for the lives of our people,” one of the Emirs remarked. “We assure him of our total support and cooperation in ensuring this initiative succeeds.”

According to Ustaz Kyari, the committee has so far visited 13 out of the 14 Emirate Councils, gathering valuable insights and community-based recommendations to enhance security operations across the state.

He emphasized that at the conclusion of the tour, the committee would submit a comprehensive report with actionable recommendations to further consolidate peace and stability in Yobe.

“This initiative reflects the governor’s inclusive governance approach — one that recognizes the indispensable role of traditional rulers in sustaining peace,” Ustaz Kyari stated.
