THE INVISIBLE TEACHER - DAY 14.
One of the beauties of Africa and Nigeria to be specific is the array of languages she boasts of.. it's a very beautiful heritage.
Whilst growing up, I had this book I love so much. The title of the book was "The A-One English" and one thing that stood out for me was how the Author taught me English Language like he was right beside me.
Today, I hope I will be able to teach you YORUBA LANGUAGE like that.. I hope to get dubbed "The invisible teacher" as i intend to teach you YORUBA LANGUAGE as if there isn't any distance barrier between Us. I hope to be able to speak to your soul through your eyes as you read these words I am about to teach you.. few words of the YORUBA LANGUAGE.
Dear Readership, I would want you to take a deep breath and then exhale! These words aren't as difficult as they seem and today I will teach you words you can use to greet at different times of the day. Are we cool? Can we continue? Have you got any questions thus far? Yes..? No right? Cool, let's continue.
Dear Readership, if you intend to great an elder in the early hours of the day, do you know the right phrase to use? No? Alright. I will tell you. That's why I am here for you. To great an elder in the early hours of the day, kindly say "E KAARO".
"E" - as in "E" sound of "Egg"
Please note that "KAARO" is the good morning, however.. in the Yoruba, respect is paramount to Us and that's why you have to add the "E" to show respect. Did you get that? Yes!
How about your mate or younger fellow? That's pretty simple. Just say "KAARO".. it's the other fellow that will add the "E" in his or her response.
I think we can continue right? Was that understood? Yes! Alright! You're a very fast learner.. that's impressive.
Now we can proceed.. if it were to be in the day time, the right phrase to use for an elder is "E KAASAN".. Yes, the "E" retains it sound but "KAASAN" comes in to show that it's in the day time.
If it were to be your mate or someone younger.. you know what to say right?.. Yes! Exactly!! "KAASAN" is enough, the other fellow responds with the "E".. such a brilliant student! So lucky to be your invisible teacher.
And then finally for the day as it won't be nice to bombard you with so many phrases..
If it were to be at nighttime, you will simply say "E KAALE" if you're ro greet someone older than you and of course "KAALE" for a mate or a younger fellow.
Note that that's how we greet in IBADAN, the beautiful city where I originate from.. the city of the brown roofs.
I hope you enjoyed the session? It was brief but I know it was worth your while.
Till I come you way again my dear readership, I remain your teacher.. the invisible teacher.
