Potiskum residents have commended Hon. Salisu Muktari and the North East Development Commission (NEDC) for the ongoing construction of the Arikime–Potiskum–Gashua link road, describing the project as a breakthrough that is transforming the community’s outlook on development.
As the asphaltic construction moves steadily, residents say the project has restored confidence in leadership that genuinely listens and responds to the needs of the people; many attribute the intervention directly to Hon. Muktari’s commitment to the welfare of his people and his decisive engagement with the NEDC that secured the project.
Community members noted that Hon. Muktari’s hands-on approach, from leading the NEDC team for physical assessment to ensuring the road was prioritized, played a pivotal role in turning years of appeals into a tangible solution now unfolding on the ground.
“We thank Hon. Salisu Muktari for standing for this community; this road is already changing our daily lives,” said Alhaji Bello Adamu, a community elder in Arikime. “For years we struggled with this route, but today, we see real progress.”
Transporters and traders echoed the sentiment, highlighting the project’s impact on business and mobility. They said the improved access is reducing travel delays, opening new trade routes, and making Potiskum more accessible for commercial activities.
Local youth groups, women's organizations, and market associations also joined in celebrating the development, stressing that the road symbolizes a shift toward practical, people-driven leadership.
“This project is proof that when a representative puts the people first, development follows,” said Amina Isa, a trader. “Hon. Muktari has shown us that leadership is about action, not words.”
Residents praised the NEDC for responding swiftly once the community’s needs were presented through Hon. Muktari’s intervention, describing the collaboration as an example of how government institutions can work together to deliver meaningful results.
With construction advancing, the Arikime–Potiskum–Gashua link road is being hailed as one of the most significant steps toward improving mobility and strengthening economic activities in Potiskum.
For the people, the message is simple: this is development they can see, feel, and benefit from thanks to the efforts of Hon. Salisu Muktari and the NEDC.
