In a landmark step toward improving public welfare, the Executive Chairman of Potiskum Local Government, Hon. Salisu Muktari, has deepened his commitment to providing clean and safe drinking water across the LGA with the appointment of Hon. Ibrahim Iliyasu as Senior Special Assistant on Water Resources.

The move signals a strategic push to strengthen water infrastructure, especially in rural communities such as Garin Makwai, Tiken Shanu, Garin Abe, and Mazagane, where residents have long struggled with water scarcity.

Hon. Salisu Muktari said the appointment is not merely political but a practical, people-centered decision aimed at delivering sustainable solutions independent of weather conditions or electricity constraints. To achieve this, the administration is rolling out modern solar-powered borehole systems, ensuring reliable, continuous access to clean water both day and night.

“Water is a basic right, not a privilege. Our administration is determined to end the suffering of women and children who trek long distances searching for water. With Hon. Ibrahim Iliyasu coordinating Water Resources, Potiskum is moving into a new era of clean water delivery,” Muktari said.

The initiative directly reflects the broader vision of His Excellency Gov. Mai Mala Buni, whose administration prioritizes the provision of clean and accessible water across all communities in Yobe State.

Hon. Salisu Muktari reaffirmed that Potiskum will remain a frontline beneficiary of this development drive.

Residents in Garin Makwai, Tiken Shanu, and Mazagane have already welcomed the ongoing installations, describing them as a relief after years of depending on unsafe water sources. The solar-powered boreholes will also reduce the risks of waterborne diseases, boost hygiene, and support small economic activities.

With an experienced SSA focused solely on water resource management, the council is expected to accelerate supervision, maintenance, and expansion of water facilities across the LGA.

Hon. Muktari assured that more communities and several wards within Potiskum township are already captured in the next phase of the project.
