The Executive Chairman of Potiskum LGA, Hon. Salisu Muktari, has described Yobe State’s decision to implement its 2026 budget without borrowing as one of the strongest signs of disciplined governance under the current administration.

Reacting to the breakdown of the budget as announced in Damaturu by the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Hon. Muktari said the financial direction reflects a government that is focused on stability, accountability, and protecting the economic future of its citizens.

According to the projection, the state will fund its budget through statutory allocations and internally generated revenue, which together account for about 90% of expected income. The remaining 10% will come from development grants, including support from international partners such as the World Bank and NG-CARES.

Hon. Muktari praised the approach, emphasizing that avoiding unnecessary borrowing is a deliberate step that keeps the state financially healthy.

“Running a budget without debt is not just a policy—it's a promise of responsible leadership. This shows Yobe is managing resources wisely and thinking ahead,” he said.

He also noted that many states in Nigeria continue to depend on loans to survive, while Yobe is charting a more sustainable course that will prevent future repayment pressures and allow resources to be channeled into development.

Hon. Muktari also assured that Potiskum Local Government will continue to align with this model of transparency and prudent spending, especially in ongoing and upcoming projects that directly benefit local communities.

Residents and observers have welcomed the announcement, describing it as proof that the state government is committed to growth without accumulating debt.

With this development, Hon. Salisu Muktari says Yobe stands as an example of how good governance can transform public confidence and secure a better future for the state.
