Potiskum, the commercial hub of Yobe State, is witnessing a new dawn of development and opportunities as Governor Mai Mala Buni, CON, completed three major projects that are now ready for the grand opening—the Modern Trailer Park, Sesame Processing Plant, and Modern Commercial Markets.
These projects, described by stakeholders as transformative and people-led, are critical to Governor Buni’s vision of transforming Yobe’s economic potential into sustainable prosperity, marking a bold step towards repositioning Potiskum as a hub for trade, logistics, and industrial development in Northern Nigeria.
Modern Trailer Park: At the heart of Potiskum’s transformation is the Modern Trailer Park—a project designed to restore order and efficiency to the town’s bustling transportation network.
The site provides parking, modern transportation infrastructure, and amenities for transporters.
By reducing congestion and improving the flow of goods, the project will improve safety, reduce travel times, and open new doors for business activities, while directly improving the lives of traders and transport workers.
Sesame Processing Company: The newly completed Sesame Processing Plant represents Governor Buni’s commitment to transform Yobe from sesame production to value-added processing.
As the state is already one of the largest sesame producers in Nigeria, this plant will process and stock sesame for export—creating jobs, empowering farmers, and increasing the state’s revenue, marking a sign of economic self-reliance and a major step towards building an industrialized Yobe where agriculture provides prosperity.
Modern Markets: Also completed are the Modern Markets—spaces built with the aim of empowering small traders, businessmen, and businesswomen with improved infrastructure, a clean environment, and improved security. This market will become a vibrant economic hub that reflects the entrepreneurial spirit that Potiskum is known for.
Hon. Salisu Muktari, the Executive Chairman of Potiskum Local Government Area, commended Governor Buni for his vision and people-centered leadership, saying:
"These projects are more than just buildings—they are lasting for our people; they will create jobs, attract investors, and redefine Potiskum as a place of hope and opportunity."
Observers have described the achievements as a major statement of Gov. Buni’s leadership—which is based on infrastructure, innovation, and sustainable development.
As the state prepares to begin official operations, excitement is growing across Potiskum, with residents seeing these projects not only as progress but also as a restoration of dignity and renewed opportunities.
