Yobe State Governor, His Excellency Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, CON, COMN, will today, 6th November 2025, present the 2026 Appropriation Bill before the State House of Assembly in Damaturu, Yobe State Capital.
The presentation is expected to attract senior government officials, federal representatives, development partners, civil society groups, and traditional leaders, signaling the administration’s continued commitment to open and accountable governance.
Over recent years, the budget presentation in Yobe has grown from a statutory obligation into a public accountability event where government plans, achievements, and future priorities are openly displayed for citizens and institutions to assess; this is one of the reasons confidence in government spending has increased across the state.
A major feature of the Buni administration is the shift from a closed budgeting method to a participatory model.
Before the final draft of the Appropriation Bill is prepared, ministries and agencies consult with communities, town unions, women and youth associations, labor unions, market groups, development partners, and humanitarian agencies.
Through these consultations, citizens identify priority challenges such as school rehabilitation, health service expansion, agricultural support, road and water projects, and livelihood programs. This process ensures that government spending reflects real local needs rather than assumptions from a distance.
Policy experts argue that this approach has reduced duplication of projects and strengthened public trust in government decisions.
While final figures will be unveiled during today’s session, documents from the state’s planning departments indicate strong emphasis on:
Expanding access to quality education, especially in rural communities, Strengthening healthcare delivery and medical infrastructure, boosting agricultural productivity and food security.
Supporting youth and women with empowerment and job creation, Accelerating ongoing road, water, and electrification projects, Sustaining humanitarian and recovery interventions, Enhancing peacebuilding and security initiatives.
These priority sectors align with the administration’s ongoing agenda of rebuilding the state, restoring livelihoods, and expanding economic opportunities.
In recent years, the Buni administration has made public finance more transparent by publishing budget summaries, releasing performance reports, and cooperating with development partners for external monitoring.
This openness has earned the state commendations from national watchdog groups and international partners working in governance and accountability.
After today’s budget is laid before lawmakers, the Assembly will begin legislative consideration, while civil society organizations and media monitors are expected to review the details as part of the state’s open-government policy.
The 2026 budget will deepen the reforms that have positioned Yobe as one of the most transparent subnational governments in the Northeast.
