Yobe State is preparing for another year of aggressive development as Governor Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, CON, COMN, has presented a N515,583,000,000 budget proposal for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly.
The proposal, tagged “Budget of Economic Growth and Infrastructural Transformation,” sets out a clear plan to expand the state’s infrastructure, strengthen public services, and drive economic progress.
The new figure marks a huge increase from the N320,811,000,000 of the outgoing year—an indication that the Buni administration is scaling up investment in the people of Yobe.
A breakdown of the proposal shows N192,128,000,000 (37.3%) for recurrent expenditure and N323,455,000,000 (62.7%) for capital projects.
By allocating the majority of funds to capital spending, Gov. Buni is signaling a commitment to long-term development—more roads, better healthcare, improved schools, water projects, electrification, and stronger agricultural systems.
Reeling out highlights of the 2026 plan, the governor announced two major healthcare interventions that have drawn public attention:
A brand new renal dialysis center in Gashua—giving kidney patients access to treatment within the state. A new General Hospital in Potiskum—to decongest the overburdened Specialist Hospital and expand access to quality medical care.
“These are projects that touch lives directly,” Governor Buni said. “We are building a healthcare system that our people can trust.”
The governor also noted that the outgoing year recorded significant achievements in education, agriculture, road construction, electricity, and water supply—adding that his administration will not slow down in 2026.
Political observers have described the budget as bold, people-focused, and development-driven; community stakeholders praised the plan, saying it reflects the needs of ordinary citizens and continues Buni’s record of responsible leadership.
With this proposal, the Buni administration has once again shown that development is not a promise—it is a continuous process.
