Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has unveiled a forward-looking education and health agenda in the 2026 budget proposal, signaling a decisive push to tackle challenges affecting children, mothers, and vulnerable communities across the state.
In the education sector, Governor Buni announced plans to establish one model primary school in each of the 178 electoral wards, ensuring that every child—whether in urban or rural communities—has access to quality, modern learning facilities.
In addition, the government will build a new Integrated Model School in Damaturu, combining science education with Islamic studies to strengthen both knowledge and values in young learners, the initiative reflects the administration’s resolve to bridge the learning gap, boost enrollment, and secure a brighter future for Yobe’s next generation.
On the healthcare front, the governor rolled out a series of life-changing interventions. The 2026 budget sets aside provisions to complete the remaining 36 primary healthcare centers across the state, ensuring communities currently underserved will finally receive functional medical facilities.
A brand-new General Hospital is to be constructed in Potiskum—a major step that will decongest existing hospitals and expand access to quality medical care for thousands of residents in the zone.
To address the rising cases of kidney disease, Governor Buni also announced the establishment of a Renal Dialysis Centre in Gashua, the first of its kind in that part of the state. The facility will save families the burden of travelling long distances for treatment and will position Yobe as a regional hub for renal care.
The administration will further upgrade maternity centers, provide new ambulances, solarize hospitals for uninterrupted power, and strengthen maternal and child health services to reduce preventable deaths.
These priorities, all strategically set for delivery within the 2026 fiscal year, reflect Governor Buni’s commitment to solving real problems, improving quality of life, and ensuring that government investment translates into visible results across all communities.
With education and healthcare standing at the heart of the new budget, many observers see the proposals as not just development plans but a statement of leadership—placing the well-being of the people above politics and laying foundations that will outlive the current administration.
