Yobe’s political landscape witnessed a defining moment as Alhaji Sani Adamu Yarin Fika, one of the most influential pillars of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) with his full political structure, supporters, and campaign machinery.
The announcement in Damaturu signaled the complete collapse of PDP’s last functional base in Zone B and confirmed APC’s unmatched dominance in the state.
Speaking at the event, Yarin Fika said his decision was driven by visible performance and accountable leadership under Governor Mai Mala Buni.
“PDP no longer has the capacity to win or provide credible leadership in Yobe,” he declared. “Our movement to APC is a choice for development, not sentiment. We are joining a government that is delivering real projects and real results.”
He confirmed that his entire political network had shifted loyalty to the ruling party.
Yobe APC Chairman Alhaji Mohammed Gadaka described the defection as a landmark victory that changes the political balance in the state.
“This is not just a defection—this is the absorption of a full political structure,” Gadaka said. “With Yarin Fika in APC, the PDP has lost its final stronghold. This strengthens our party across Potiskum, Zone B, and the entire state.”
He also assured the decampees of full support, inclusion, and equal opportunities within the ruling party.
Governor Mai Mala Buni welcomed Yarin Fika and his supporters, emphasizing that their decision reflects public confidence in the government’s developmental achievements.
“This movement is a clear endorsement of the work we are doing in healthcare, education, security, and infrastructure,” Buni said.
“We will continue to build, to serve, and to keep the doors open for anyone who believes in a better Yobe.”
Political observers say the governor’s steady progress has become a powerful force pulling former opposition members into the APC fold.
With the departure of Yarin Fika, analysts say the PDP no longer has grassroots mobilizers, campaign coordinators, electoral structure, or operational capacity.
The APC’s strength now stretches across all senatorial districts with little to no resistance; the defection marks a new political reality—where the ruling party stands unchallenged and the opposition struggles for survival.
The shift is not symbolic; it is structural. Not just movement of individuals, but movement of influence, loyalty, and electoral capacity.
