📍Kano, Nigeria

If you’re looking to grow your network in Kano, forget the stiff corporate halls for a minute. Real connections happen over suya and chai, not PowerPoint slides. I’ve been bouncing around events here for the past year, and here’s where you need to be.

First up is the **Kano Innovation Hub** off Ibrahim Taiwo Road near the old Airport Hotel. They run monthly mixers every last Thursday. No suits required - just bring your business card or your phone with a WhatsApp invite. I met three solid partners for my logistics startup there. Entry is usually free or under ₦1,000 with snacks.

For the creative crowd, head to **Tarauni** on a Saturday afternoon. The “Green Gathering” pops up at the open yard behind the Emir’s Palace on Emir’s Road. It’s a mix of freelance designers, videographers, and writers sharing projects. Last month, a guy from Sabon Gari pitched a documentary idea and got funding from a BUK lecturer. Bring a notepad - these sessions get deep.

If you’re into tech and business, **Bompai** is your spot. **NITDA’s Innovation Center** on Murtala Mohammed Way hosts “Kano Connect” every first Friday. Expect 40-50 people, from startup founders to bank managers. I’ve seen real deals closed over groundnut cake during the tea break. Free parking at the center’s lot.

Don’t sleep on the **Gwammaja** area either. **Kano Business Network** meets at the old cinema hall on Zaria Road every second Tuesday. It’s more formal - bring a notebook. They do speed networking for 30 minutes where you rotate tables. I got my current accountant there.

Pro tip: always carry cash for kayan hausa snacks (chin chin or kosai) from the vendors outside. Also, share your contact fast - Kano deals move on the spot. Don’t be shy to follow up with a voice note on WhatsApp.

Wait, the Green Gathering in Tarauni is actually a thing? I've been in Kano for two years and never heard of it. Definitely checking that out next Saturday. Also the speed networking at Gwammaja sounds like my worst nightmare but I bet it works lol. Thanks for the heads up on the cash thing too - almost got caught out last time at the Innovation Hub
