📍Port Harcourt, Nigeria

I’ve been following TechUp Port Harcourt since Season 2, and it’s actually become one of the few events I look forward to every year here in the Garden City. Seeing it hit Season 6 is massive - it’s finally getting the recognition it deserves beyond just the South-South bubble.

I remember when people used to complain that Port Harcourt had no serious tech community. Now you can’t walk through Rumuokwuta or沿着Peter Odili Road without seeing coworking spaces popping up. TechUp is a big reason for that shift. They bring speakers from Lagos, Abuja, and even diaspora tech leaders who actually **stay** to network after their sessions. No fly-in-and-fly-out nonsense.

What I appreciate most is how practical the workshops have become. Last season, I attended a session on fintech compliance at the Hotel Presidential venue, and the presenter actually broke down CBN regulations using real local banking apps we all use. None of that theoretical Silicon Valley copy-paste stuff. Plus, the startup pitching sessions at the hub on Forces Avenue give young founders real feedback - not just claps and empty encouragement.

My only warning: the parking situation can be a headache. If you’re driving, aim to get there by 8:30am at the latest. The overflow lot near the old Coca-Cola depot fills up fast. Also, bring power banks. The Wi-Fi is usually solid, but plug points are always a battlefield.

If you’re a developer, designer, or just curious about tech in Niger Delta - this is your best chance all year to meet people who are actually solving local problems. Last year I met a team building solar payment solutions for rural communities in Oyigbo. Those are the connections that stick.

Mark the date. Show up. Bring your business cards.

wait, you just made me realize i've been sleeping on this. i moved to PH last year and kept hearing people mention techup but never actually went. the fintech compliance session you described sounds exactly like what i need rn - i work at one of those microfinance banks and the regulatory stuff is a maze honestly. the parking tip is gold too, i would've showed up at 10am clueless lol. is the Forces Avenue hub easy to find for someone who still gets lost in Rumuokwuta?
