📍Owerri, Nigeria

The battle for the best jollof in Owerri is real, and I have done my research. Forget the usual debate about party jollof versus everyday jollof. I am talking about the plates that make you close your eyes and forget your name. If you are in Owerri and you haven't tried these spots, you are missing out.

First on my list is **Soweto Kitchen** off **Wetheral Road**, right opposite the **Owerri Mall** gate. Their jollof is smoky, rich, and comes with that perfect charred bottom. They layer the rice with fresh tomato base and use coconut oil for a subtle sweetness. Ask for the fried chicken combo. It is 2,500 naira and worth every kobo. The pepper sauce they pack on the side is not a joke, so pace yourself.

If you are near the **Owerri Main Market** or **Ikenegbu**, you must stop by **Choices Restaurant** on **Douglas Road**. Their jollof is the party style. It is not too dry and not too wet. They use a ton of crayfish and crayfish oil, which gives it that deep red color. I always ask for extra plantain and a chilled bottle of Zobo. The locals know to go before 1pm because they run out fast.

For a more relaxed vibe, head to **Jollof Republic** at **Aladinma Estate**, close to **Precious Cornerstone University**. This is a newer spot, but they understand jollof. They do a "native jollof" with uziza leaves and smoked catfish. It is a game changer. The owners are a young couple who take the time to parboil the rice with stock before steaming. It is on **Aladinma Street**, just after the **First Bank** branch. Their portions are generous, so you can share.

If you are in the **New Owerri** area, near **Rojenny Tourist Village** or **Owerri City Hall**, try **Mama K's Kitchen** behind **Federal Medical Centre (FMC)**. They serve jollof in a clay pot. It gives it a unique earthy taste. The rice is fluffy and each grain is separate. Their fried meat is also top tier. It is a hidden spot, no fancy signboard, just good food.

Don't waste your money on the overpriced hotel jollof. These are the real spots. #Jollof #OwerriFood #OwerriEats #LocalGuide #Neighbors #Owerri #NigeriaFood #Foodies #OwerriLife #nircleforum #FoodieFinds
