📍Enugu, Nigeria

I saw the news about APC commending the Enugu Reps primary elections as free, fair, and exemplary. I have to say, I raised an eyebrow when I read that headline. It is not every day you hear political parties patting themselves on the back like this, especially in our state where primaries can get heated.

I remember during the last few election cycles around places like Independence Layout and Abakpa, we would hear stories of thugs disrupting voting or ballot boxes disappearing. So when APC says these primaries were a model, I think it is worth examining what actually happened on the ground. Some of my friends who are party members told me the process at their wards in Trans-Ekulu and Uwani was actually smoother than before. Voters were accredited properly, and there was less of the usual last-minute drama. Maybe the party is finally learning from past mistakes, or maybe the security agencies finally did their job around places like Okpara Avenue.

But I am still cautious. One party commending itself does not mean everything is perfect. We need to hear from independent observers and regular voters who queued up under the sun. I want to know if people in rural areas like Nkanu or Udi felt the same way. The real test will be when we see the actual results and how the losers react. If everyone shakes hands and moves on without court cases, then maybe we can call it a win for Enugu.

For now, I will watch how things unfold. It is good to see a step in the right direction, but we have been fooled before by smooth talk. Let the evidence speak for itself. I hope other parties take note and raise their standards too. Enugu deserves clean elections, not just for primaries but for every single vote.

Honestly, you're saying what a lot of us are thinking. It's good the process was smoother in some places but one party giving themselves a medal before we hear from everyone else? That's the part that gets me. My cousin was at a polling unit near Uwani and said the real shock was no one tried to snatch the ballot box. That's a low bar honestly but I'll take it. Still waiting to hear from people in the villages though
