There is no shame in the Saturday scramble. My 4C hair used to take 5+ hours and feel like a punishment. I have finally streamlined my wash day into a ritual that actually leaves my coils feeling juicy, not stripped. This is the exact routine that changed everything.

**Step 1: The Pre-Poo (This is the non-negotiable secret)**
Do not wet your hair first. Section your hair into 4-8 parts. Saturate each section with a mix of aloe vera gel and a lightweight oil like grapeseed or jojoba. Let it sit for 30 minutes under a shower cap. This locks in moisture before the cleansing even starts.

**Step 2: The Double Cleanse (Clarify, then Hydrate)**
Use a sulfate-free clarifying shampoo on your scalp only. Rinse. Follow with a moisturizing shampoo focused on your lengths. My holy grail is a shea butter based shampoo with aloe as the second ingredient. Massage with your pads of your fingers, never your nails.

**Step 3: The Deep Condition Under Heat (45 minutes minimum)**
Apply a rich deep conditioner mixed with a teaspoon of honey (humectant magic). Finger detangle gently. Sit under a hooded dryer or use a heated cap. For 4C hair, heat opens the cuticle to let moisture penetrate. Without heat, product just sits on top.

**Step 4: The LCO Method (Leave-in, Cream, Oil)**
Rinse with cool water to seal the cuticle. While soaking wet, apply:
1. Leave-in conditioner (water based)
2. Moisturizing cream (shea or mango butter based)
3. Oil (black castor or olive)
Seal the ends with extra oil. Air dry in twists or braids. Do not touch it until it is 100% dry. Touching wet 4C hair is how you get frizz.

**Step 5: The Nighttime Wrap (Protect the investment)**
Before bed, pineapple your hair into a loose high puff. Wrap with a satin scarf, then a silk bonnet over everything. Change your pillowcase to satin too. This keeps the moisture locked in for 3-4 days.

**My Biggest Lesson**
The biggest mistake I made was skipping the pre-poo. Dry hair breaks. Wet 4C hair without slip breaks faster. The pre-poo is the step that cut my breakage by half.

**Product Tips**
- Shampoo: Look for the word "sulfate-free" and "hydrating"
- Deep conditioner: Thick enough to coat without dripping
- Oil: Black castor oil for growth. Jojoba for lightweight sealing
- Hair tools: A wide tooth comb. Never a fine tooth comb on dry hair.

This routine changed my relationship with my texture. It stopped being a chore. It became a moment to reset.
