Just discovered three new spots in Akure that are shaking things up. If you haven't been to Oba Adesida Road lately, you're missing out. There's a new cafe called *The Corner Brew* right next to the old De-Prince Hotel junction. It's not your typical tea spot - they serve real espresso and have air conditioning that actually works. Perfect for escaping the afternoon heat or getting some work done. I went last Saturday and the crowd was mostly students from FUTA and young workers. The carrot cake there is dangerously good.
Over on Ijoka Road, near the big Total filling station, there's a new laundry and dry cleaning service called *Fresh Fold*. They do pickup and delivery within Akure, which is a lifesaver if you're like me and hate dragging bags to the market. I tried them last week for my work shirts, and they returned them crisp and smelling like lavender. They even have a loyalty card - buy five washes, get one free. That's the kind of deal that makes you feel like a local.
And if you're into fitness, there's a new gym that opened on Oyemekun Road, behind the old Cocoa House. It's called *Iron Haven Gym*. The space is small but packed with equipment. They have a special early bird membership for 5,000 naira a month if you sign up before 7 AM. I went for a trial class yesterday and the instructor, a guy named Segun, really knows his stuff. He pushed me hard but didn't make me feel embarrassed. The best part is they have a water dispenser and clean towels - small things that matter.
One more thing: there's a food truck that parks near the FUTA main gate every evening now. They sell grilled fish and yam with pepper sauce. It's called *Fish Point*. I tried it last Tuesday and the fish was fresh, not too dry, and the pepper had that perfect heat. They're only there from 5 PM to 9 PM, so you have to plan your visit. Definitely worth the detour if you're in the area.
