📍Onitsha, Nigeria
This story is pure madness and I'm honestly tired of seeing it pop up every other year. I remember when this same rumor went viral back in 2017. People were sharing grainy photos claiming it was a restaurant in Onitsha. Now Snopes has to debunk it again. The original claim was about a place in Anambra, not even Onitsha proper, but people just slapped our city's name on it for clicks.
Let me set the record straight for those who don't know Onitsha. We have some of the best local eateries in the East. From the pepper soup joints along Awka Road to the fresh catfish spots near the Bridge Head market. If you want real Onitsha food, go to Nkpor junction for abacha and ugba. Try the moi moi and akara at the women's cooperative near Ochanja market. Nobody is serving anything sinister.
This kind of fake news hurts small businesses. People already talk down on Onitsha because of the traffic and the market chaos. Now they want to add cannibalism to the list? Please. The restaurant that was actually named in the original rumor years back was a small buka in Upper Iweka area and they almost got lynched over lies. The owner had to close down and relocate.
Let's be wise. If you see a story that seems too wild, check the source. Snopes is doing the right thing here. And to my fellow Onitsha residents, don't share unverified news. Our city has enough real problems without this nonsense. Stick to the authentic spots. The real danger in Onitsha is the potholes on Zik Avenue, not roasted anything.
