You want jollof rice and you don't want to drive all the way to Orlando. I hear you. We've got some real gems right here in Daytona Beach, you just have to know where to look.
My go-to right now is **Taste of Africa** over on **Beville Road**, just past the **Daytona International Speedway** entrance. It's a small spot in that plaza by the Advance Auto Parts, easy to miss if you're not looking. Their jollof is the real deal -- smoky, rich tomato flavor, and they don't skimp on the spice. They'll ask if you want it "mild or hot." Go hot. Their fried plantains on the side are perfect too. I stop there at least twice a month.
For a different vibe, head to **A Taste of Jamaica & More** on **Nova Road**, near the **Daytona State College** campus. Technically Jamaican-run, but their jollof is solid and they serve it with curry goat or oxtail that's fall-off-the-bone tender. The ladies working there are always friendly and will tell you about the specials. Get the large portion -- you'll want leftovers.
If you're near the beach, try **Soul Food Kitchen** on **International Speedway Boulevard**, right by **A1A**. It's a tiny takeout joint behind the gas station. Their jollof rice is more of a Southern-style take -- still tomato-based, but with a little more bell pepper and a hint of smoked turkey. It's not traditional West African, but it hits the spot when you're craving something warm and savory after a day at the sand.
One last tip -- check the **Daytona Beach Flea Market** on weekends. There's a Nigerian lady who sets up a stall near the **South Entrance**, selling homemade jollof rice with fried fish or beef skewers. No sign, no menu, just a cooler and a cardboard box. Cash only. She's usually there by 10am and sells out by 2pm. Best kept secret in town.
