📍Jos, Nigeria

I was at Old Airport Junction when the presidential convoy rolled through last week. Honestly, the whole thing felt rushed. Tinubu landed, made some promises about infrastructure and security, and was gone before we could even process what happened. For those of us who live here, it’s hard not to be skeptical. We’ve seen VIP visits before with big speeches and photo ops, then nothing changes. The roads around Terminus Market are still a nightmare, and the security situation in areas like Rikkos and Bauchi Ring Road remains shaky.

What struck me most was the contrast. The president’s team talked about investment and development, but many of us are still dealing with daily struggles like fuel scarcity and rising food prices. At the market near Farin Gada, women selling vegetables told me they didn’t even know he was in town. The visit felt more like a campaign stop than genuine engagement with our community.

That said, I do think there’s potential. If the promises about rehabilitating the Jos-Bauchi Road and improving power supply actually happen, it would be a game changer. But we need accountability. We need local leaders like the Plateau State government to push for follow-through. The real test will be in the next few months. Will we see new contracts awarded? Will security patrols increase? I’m not holding my breath, but I’m watching.

For now, my advice to neighbors: don’t expect miracles from a single visit. Focus on what we can control, like supporting local businesses and staying informed. Share any updates you hear about these projects. And if you see any new developments on the ground, post about them. That’s how we keep the pressure on.
