Rainy days in Daytona Beach don't mean you're stuck indoors with nothing to do. After living here for years, I've found a few gems that actually make you glad for the clouds.

First up, head over to the Daytona International Speedway. Even if you're not a racing fan, the tours are surprisingly cool. You get to walk through the garages on International Speedway Boulevard, stand on the track, and see the motorsports museum. It's rainy day gold because most of it is covered. The area around it off of LPGA Boulevard has plenty of parking, too.

Another favorite of mine is the Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art on Museum Boulevard in the Beachside area. It's part of the Museum of Arts and Sciences complex, which also has a planetarium and a huge collection of Cuban art. The main building is massive, so you can easily spend a few hours wandering through the galleries, especially the Florida-focused exhibits. The kids always love the giant skeleton in the lobby.

If you're on the mainland side near the historic district, check out the Daytona Beach Racing and Recreational Complex off of Nova Road. It's not just for racing - they have indoor stuff too. But for a quieter rainy day, the Halifax Historical Museum on South Beach Street is a hidden local treasure. It's in an old bank building with a vault that still has exhibits inside. You'll learn about everything from the Spanish fleet shipwrecks to the early surf culture.

For food, skip the chain places. Head to The Garlic on Garfield Avenue in New Smyrna Beach if you're willing to drive a bit. It's a converted house with great Italian food, and the vibe is cozy and dark. Or stay local and hit up the Oyster Pub on Seabreeze Boulevard. It's a dive bar but the fried shrimp and cold beer make any rainy afternoon feel like a vacation.

For a more creative rainy day, stop by the Ocean Art Gallery on Flagler Avenue in New Smyrna. It's small but packed with local artists' work. You might find a painting of a stormy beach that matches the weather outside.

Bottom line: Don't let a little rain stop you from exploring. Daytona Beach has plenty of indoor options tucked away on side streets and main roads alike.
